Filtering Raw Bee Wax

I received a heap of raw bee wax from my mother's friend who raises bees himself. It's rare to get it in Hong Kong and I was so excited to learn how to filter it to get pure bee wax.

In fact the wax can be used directly but nobody would like the debris.

Since the container cannot be used again after handling bee wax, I first used a tea can. However, I discovered that it leaked. I then shift to a china soup bowl. Bring it to a double boiler.

Melt the wax until it is completely melted. Check to add water to the boiler if necessary. Never let the wax boil.

Prepare a container and cover it with a cotton cloth and clip well.

Pour the liquid wax into the container.
When cooled, the honey will sink to the bottom and the wax will float.I discovered that the container is too wide. I poured out the honey and reheat the wax and pour it into cupcake paper.

The outcome is beautiful! Surprisingly I got 800g of honey and only 100g of wax.

Wall Organizer

I made this wall organizer for my friend's daughter. I like the PVC zipper bag which is perfect for photos as there is no need for any pins.

Repurpose a denim dress to a bag

My friend's daughter's dress that's no longer fit. She loves it and wants to keep it. Her mother asked me to re-make it to a bag.
I decided the handles first. Cut the centre back where the zipper is. The two pieces are long enough for handles.

Decide the body and the bands. The two handles are at the top. I chose a red polka-dot fabric as lining.

Cut the lining with the same shape as the body. Sew the bands to the body and the lining.

Add a little pocket to the lining. I sew on my little logo too. The original logo of the dress looks nice. I sewed it onto the main body.

My little logo

The stripe is the highlight.

From Size S to Size L

My friend asked me to turn her Tshirt from S to L
What a pretty garment! ^^

I need the fabric. Have to sacrifice the sleeves.

Have the sides opened.

Cut two stripes from sleeve, 5 cm x length of sides.

Use a walking foot and special needle for elastic fabric.

Done. Cut stripes as bias to finish the arm holes.

The bias look perfect ^^

From bath towel to kitchen towel

A little needlework to kill time in a Saturday afternoon.

Cut out 1/3 portion of a bath towel. Machine 16 "L" pleats evenly along the width, each of 6" long.

Cut to desired height of the dress and seal the loose top with a match-color stripe.

Join the back leaving the skirting open.

The basic form is completed.

Machine on a ribbon (It is the leftover of the "Strawberry cake" I made for Mao Mao some years ago) along the seam.

Add a little bow, it's done!

Variation 1: same cutting with a different ribbon

Variation 2: Another cutting style
